Piz Palü Orientale

Piz Palü NE Face – Via Soresini

D, 5.2, E3 (45-50°, 500m)

Following a disapointing ski season, the desire to experience deep, cold, and dry snow in a challenging alpine environment remained strong. In April, the webcam images from the Diavolezza Lift offered promising conditions, prompting a try

The journey commenced with an early start. Departing from Munich at 4:00 AM allowed for arrival at the Diavolezza Lift in time for the first gondola ascent. Utilizing an established skin-track, we made good progress. By approximately 11:00 AM, we neared the summit.

However, as we started to climb the summit ridge, the weather took a turn. Thick clouds obscured the face, making it impossible to assess the snow conditions or navigate the intended route. Faced with these unforeseen circumstances, we were forced to make the prudent decision to descend via the same route.

Undeterred, we returned two weeks later. Once again, it was a race against time and the weather. This time, however, we were successful!
