Aiguille du Plan

Versant S – PD, 3.3, 40°

Good snow is rare at the moment and we figured that it might be the best to test the slopes with south exposure. For the case we wouldn’t find spring snow, we wanted to combine the skiing with some easy mountaineering, just to make the day a bit more fulfilling.
Before running over to the Helbronner side (Italy) we tested snow close to the Midi cableway. Therefor opted for the Midi-Plan traverse which we heard was already tracked. When we arrived at the Col du Plan, the snow on the north side was deep and would become tiring to walk: There was a track in the beginning, but people must have turned around soon. Because sun was already burning we took the normal ski touring variation around the Rognon du Plan in order to save some time. We got some really nice views and okay skiing but unfourtunately too wet to call it good spring snow.
