Alpspitze NE

No access to Austria in winter 2021, so why not go and finally try to ski the Alpsitze North-East flank?

It’s regularly skied, first descend by Heini Holzer dating back to 1976.

PD, 4.2, E3 (35°-45°, 400m)

Like many other descents in the area, this one is far less wild than many reports on the internet suggest. The first few turns starting from the shoulder are steep. Maybe around 45°. The flank quickly becomes significantly less steep, until it finally lays back to barely 35° for the final meters above the big rock ledge. Still this flank is an impressive landmark and the skiing is pure joy in good snow:

Pictures from end of March 2021:

Looking back to the steep top section which we skied individually and one after the other
Tobi opening the middle section
Great Wetterstein ambiance
Five days after the last precipitation, snow couldn’t be any better

We started without big expectations but in the end we were quite happy as it became one of the better days this season
