“Rote Rinne”; PD, 4.2, E2 ski rated couloir (400m 40°, shorter sections 45°)
This might be the prettiest couloir in the Wetterstein / Karwendel range I know of. For sure there are many other great lines around, but this one in particular has its very own exceptional charm.
The best thing is – in early season – when the snow is still cold and dry, it hardly sees any traffic at all!
Despite the fact that this line is so obvious and can be seen in its entire length from the top of the neighboring “Dammkar” ski route, skiers and climbers get attracted only during the spring months that usually wait with firm snow conditions.

Tiefkarspitze Westrinne “Rote Rinne”
Wie auch schon bei der beliebten Alpspitze, so finden sich im Internet auch zu dieser Tour durchwegs nur wenig objektive Angaben zur Steilheit. Die Rinne ist zwar tatsächlich recht steil, aber 50° werden mit Sicherheit nie erreicht. Wahrscheinlich rührt diese Angabe vom subjektiven Empfinden der Begeher bei harten Schneeverhältnissen her.
Die Steilheit im Mittel beträgt 40° und es warten nur 2-3 kürzere Abschnitte wo es etwas steiler wird.
Skifahrerisch am lohnendsten ist mit Sicherheit der Monat Februar. Danach, ab März braucht es schon ein sehr gutes Timing oder man muss eben Abstriche bei der Schneequalität hinnehmen.
